Acts to Export – the CEE scene at Wilsonic
Wilsonic has focused on CEE scene since the very beginning. The Wilsonic Showcases features Hungary this year, and brings forth several acts worth catching. That is not where it ends! Thanks to the Internet and open borders between Central and Eastern Europe, trends in the CEE scene are brought to the rest of the world.
The Czech Republic dubstep scene sees the “south-London sound” is brought to the heart of Europe. Side9000, Ans and Machine Funck, will perform at the Wilsonic.CLUB stage and will make the crowd move to the the pounding bass and sparse dubstep rhythms. The Wilsonic audience also has the opportunity to see young Prague-based electronic duo Popper-C, the one-man project of 1A2V1, and a folklore-cabaret, electro-acoustic band called DVA.
The Ukrainian born and currently living in Slovakia, Karaoke Tundra, produces under his moniker since 2001. Karaoke Tundra works on various side-projects as well as performs as a DJ. With a range of activities that make up a mixture of micro-sound experiments, hip-hop sampling and everything in between, Karaoke Tundra is name not to miss!
Foolk (previously knows as Foolcut) is a playful experimentalist. As described on his homepage ”his music is colourful trip to the world of samples, cuts and glitch-hop beats (...) with endless limits from the old-time jazz records to street rush.” Wilsonic is proud to welcome Foolk to the festival stage.
The Slovak experimental scene is rep’d this year by Isobutane, Pjoni and The Autumnist. Isobutane tracks contain both melancholic melodies and glitchy percussion.
As a teenager Pjoni is a great musical talent with a keen sense of melancholic minimalism.
With the recent release of a new album, The Autumnist will play their genre-crossing electronica live. The Autumnist combines ambient with soundwalls of breakbeat and hip-hop beats, dub depths with high frequencies of glitches, hi-tech courses with lo-fi pop, bizzare movie-like atmospheres with extraterrestrial folklore. Slovakia is also rep’d by Band, emd, Baltazar, Funkatron, Tomo, Gerionty, Ink Midget, Rawfare, Bobsan and Kasioboy.
Experimental hip-hop combined with jungle and rave sound is where Polish band Napszyklat is at.
After making underground techno for many years, the duo ‘3 Channels’ have now ventured into new territory. This time, as Catz n’ Dogz, the boys have headed towards deep house without losing sight of their harder techno roots – exploring lush organic soundscapes with live drums and instrumentation.
